How To Clean Conductivity Probe

  • #1

Can I use 50/50% of water/vinegar to clean a Conductivity Probe? I know I can clean a PH Probe with Vinegar but not sure about a Conductivity Probe. Has anyone cleaned their Conductivity Probe and what did you use?

Thanks,

Is there by chance a manufacturer name or model number on the probe? So far after doing a search I have seen 3 different procedures for cleaning the probe.

It is the Neptune Systems Conductivity Probe

This is what I have found so far:
Hach - probe you clean it with a 1% solution of Hydrochloric acid solution or strong detergent solution and rinse with deionized water.
Bluelab รข€" Use their probe cleaner with their special chamois
Dmphelp - Rinse the sensor with clean, warm water. Prepare a mild soap solution. Use warm water and dishwashing detergent, Borax hand soap or other soaps that do not contain lanolin which will coat the electrodes. Soak the sensor for 2 to 3 minutes in the soap solution.

I myself would use a good electrode cleaner that would be used to clean the PH and ORP probes or just send an email to Curt at Neptune Systems to see what method needs to be used, he is pretty good about a quick response.

Louis, Good idea to contact Curt. I didn't even think about that. I will get a message off to him and see what he says.

Thanks,
David

This is the reply I received from Curt at Neptune Systems:

Just use a soft bristled tooth brush to clean the biofilm on the probes.
If there is plating on the probes, then soak the probe in vinegar for 12 to
24 hours.
